Prostatic basal cells, mammary gland basal cells, epidermis basal cells.
34betaE12 (high molecular weight cytokeratin)
- basal cell-specific cytokeratin antibody. PMID: 12218572
- 34betaE12 and p63 are highly specific for basal cells and therefore are negative in areas of PCa. p63 is more sensitive than 34betaE12 in staining benign basal cells, particularly for TURP specimens, offering slight advantage over 34betaE12 in diagnostically challenging cases. p63 may be used as an alternative to 34betaE12 stain for difficult prostate lesions. PMID: 12218572
Basal Cell Cocktail (34betaE12 + p63)
- The cocktail provides a simple, cost-effective improvement in basal cell immunohistochemical analysis of difficult prostate lesions. PMID: 15487448
- Basal cell cocktail not only increases the sensitivity of the basal cell detection, but also reduces the staining variability and therefore renders the basal cell immunostaining more consistent. We recommend this basal cell cocktail for routine Pca diagnostic work-up. PMID: 12604893
Bcl-2
- a new basal cell marker in prostatic pathology. PMID: 16838605
CD44
- consistently found almost exclusively at intercellular surfaces, with a very strong predilection for widened intercellular pouches, ie, identical to the distribution in the normal epidermis. PMID: 11896210
Keratin 14
- a basal cell marker. PMID: 11531783
- expressed only by the basal (myoepithelial) cells in the secretory epithelia of the mammary gland. PMID: 2466404
p63
- a sensitive marker of prostatic basal cells. PMID: 12481011
- complimentary basal cell specific marker to high molecular weight-cytokeratin in distinguishing prostatic carcinoma from benign prostatic lesions. PMID: 17682568
- a prostate basal cell marker and is required for prostate development. PMID: 11106548
- basal cell marker p63, a p53 homologue, stains basal cell nuclei but not secretory cells.
P-Cadherin
- a basal cell-specific epithelial marker that is not expressed in prostate cancer. PMID: 9815605
S100A6 (Calcyclin)
- a prostate basal cell marker absent in prostate cancer and its precursors. PMID: 15280928
